Webster defines stock pot as:
1. a pot used for preparing soup stock
2. a pot, etc. containing any mixture
3. a rich supply or resource
It is the third definition that defines the mission of "stockpotbuzz." Our goal is to be a rich resource of all things relating to food: the selection, preparation, serving and enjoyment of our earth's bounty. From concept to creation, we'll chat about affordable food and entertaining. Our stock pot will buzz with ideas that everyone can afford, not just the world traveler.
First, let's take a look back at where the stock pot originated.
In the olden days, the really olden days of cast iron, wood burning kitchen stoves and the "original" slow cooking method, it was common for a stock pot to simmer, continuously, on a burner. It was the catch all for left overs that would be used in the making of a soup broth....and eventually a hearty soup. Nothing went to waste. Beginning with a roast beef bone and water on Sunday, the ingredients simmered slowly. Adding left over potatoes and vegetables throughout the week, by Thursday a tasty soup had been created. Served with homemade bread, it presented a hearty feast for week's end. Families sat around the table, enjoying another wholesome meal.
In today's hurried world, we yearn for the joy associated with the kitchen, eating and sharing good times with family and friends. Stockpotbuzz will share ideas about making that happen.
Welcome to my new blog! My next posting will include July 4th celebration ideas. Until then....
